Crossword puzzles and clues are a reoccurring element in Rubicon. In the pilot episode, Gone In The Teeth, Tanya MacGaffin asks Will Travers for help with a crossword puzzle clue. Will solves the clue with relative ease and Tanya wonders why she even bothers with them, suggesting Will keep it. Later that day, Will checks solves some of the crossword puzzle and notices that the same hint is published across several newspapers printed that day.
